Flavors at Metro Market’s MyMo Mochi Ice Cream Bar

A couple of weeks ago I stopped by the Metro Market in downtown Milwaukee. It was hot outside and I really needed something to drink. As I’m about to check out I notice the most amazing thing ever! They had a MyMo mochi ice cream bar.

I tasted all the flavors this MyMo mochi bar had available! A total of 9 flavors: Green Tea, Double Chocolate, Vanilla Bean, Island Coffee, Ripe Strawberry, Sweet Mango, Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream, and Butter Pecan!

This mini bar was amazing because if you wanted to try the MyMo mochi ice cream, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on a whole boof only one flavox. The bar sold each mochi at $1.50 each. Compared to the regular price of a box which ranges between $4.99USD – $5.99USD for 6 mochi pieces, you’re paying a higher price per mochi but you get to try the different flavors instead of wasting money on a product you might not like.

I initially thought it was going to be a strong matcha flavored but when I bit into it, it was certainly more like green tea and not so much like matcha. I also tasted a different flavor in the ice cream; for some reason I got a hint of jasmine but when I looked at the ingredients, I didn’t find jasmine among them and “matcha green tea” was listed, not just “matcha” as you’d see in other Japanese matcha products.

double chocolate

I’m happy that they managed to make this mochi exceptionally chocolatey. I’m not sure but I believe there was chocolate chips in the ice cream; or at least I thought I could taste them. If you love chocolate, you’ll love this one!

my mochi vanilla
vanilla bean

The ice cream and mochi dough were both the standard flavor you’d find just about anywhere. The vanilla bean was strong. If you’ve never had mochi before, the standard is made out of rice flour, water and sugar; it tastes similar to a less sweet version of a marshmallow. This combination was really good.

island coffee

This mochi tasted a bit like espresso. The ice cream was entirely coffee flavored but the mochi dough also had a light coffee flavor. To me it was a rather standard coffee flavored ice cream but with something chewy to much on.

my mochi strawberry
ripe strawberry

You’ve heard of peaches & cream, well this was much like strawberries and cream. It reminded me of when I made strawberry milk with the syrup and I would add too much. The ice cream overpowered the taste of the mochi dough but because it was pink, I would assume it was strawberry flavored too. This was a pleasant surprise because I was expecting the usual mild strawberry flavor but it almost felt like I was eating a very ripe strawberry, hence the name.

sweet mango

I absolutely loved this; the mango flavor was very strong and fruity. It almost felt like they used a whole mango with a little bit of citrus and mixed it with cream. I’m not really sure whether the mochi dough tasted anything like mango or citrus. This would be amazing with some Tajín (Mexican chili, lime & salt seasoning) or Chamoy (Mexican chili sauce for fruit).

my mochi mint chocolate
mint chocolate chip

I’m not a fan of mint flavored ice cream. I do love peppermint however. With that being said I wasn’t looking forward to trying this mochi. For some reason I was expecting chocolate ice cream with mint inside. Perhaps because I like chocolate mint candies like Andes Mints.

In any case, the majority of the ice cream was the standard green mint flavor. It had chocolate chips in it but not that much. There’s a hint of mint in the mochi dough but the ice cream is what gives off the most flavor. Like I said, I’m not a fan of mint chocolate but this was good.

cookies & Cream

This mochi also impressed me because I could taste pieces of the chocolate cookies and even the creme between the cookies. It was creamy and a perfect mix of cookies and ice cream. When I first cut into it, I thought they had mixed chocolate into it.

my mochi butter pecan
butter pecan

The ice cream was indeed butter pecan; very nutty and buttery. It had a strong scent of maple syrup. The mochi dough I suspect was made with something nutty and maybe maple syrup. I would say it was a perfect finish to this tasting because it was so creamy and buttery. Even with the hint of maple syrup, it wasn’t overbearingly sweet.
