When I saw these Lays Pickled Fish Chips I was automatically drawn by the pretty bag.
Although, I’ll admit I wasn’t too thrilled about the flavor. I hoped it would be good.

What is Chinese pickled fish?
If you search or “pickled fish” online, you’ll get a lot of different recipes from different countries, mainly European ones. before I realized the name of the dish was on the nutritional facts, I found the image on the bag was “Sichuan fish with pickled mustard greens” or Suan Cai Yu (酸菜鱼). This is also translated as “hot and sour fish with pickled mustard greens”.
Taste
I was surprised how much I loved these Lays Pickled Fish chips. It really made me want to try the original dish that inspired the flavor.
I expected a very strong fishy flavor but was pleasantly surprised by the creamy, spicy and salsa like flavor. At first, I thought the fishy flavor was squid. After looking at the ingredients, the fishy flavor comes from anchovies.
I definitely recommend trying these out if you find them in a store near you!

Would I buy the Lays Pickled Fish chips again? Yes.
I really did enjoy this flavor of Lays chips. What makes it unfortunate about finding these different flavored snacks from other countries is that I usually only buy 1 to try it and if I happen to like a product, I can never find it again. If you find this flavor, I recommend you try it!
