Review: (あわしま堂) Awashimado Red Bean & Peach Cream Dorayaki (桃クリームどら焼)!

Today I went grocery shopping and spotted this (あわしま堂) Awashimado Red Bean & Peach Cream Dorayaki (桃クリームどら焼).

As sakura season approaches, sakura and other seasonal flavors become available.

To be honest, when I bought this dorayaki (どら焼), I thought it was peach blossom flavor and not peach cream. Still, I was happy to try it.

What is Dorayaki
(どら焼き)?

Dorayaki (どら焼き) is a Japanese food pastry composed of 2 pancakes filled with red bean paste. There are a variety of dorayaki but it’s common for it to always have red bean or some kind of bean paste with cream or fruit compote. The original dorayaki was invented in 1914 in Ueno by Usagiya and was only 1 layer.

Taste

The pancake was fluffy and the adzuki bean were sweet. The peach cream added a light creamy flavor to the pastry as a whole. However, I thought the peach flavor was lacking. I wished the peach flavor was stronger because that’s the main reason why I bought the pastry.

I wish I could say it was great but to me the peach flavor was very mild compared to the red beans. I wish there was more peach in the cream, perhaps more of a peach compote mixed in the cream.
