Review: New Lays Layers Three Cheese Chips!

Review: New Lays Layers Three Cheese Chips!

Out of the two new Lays Layers flavors, I was most excited for the Lays Layers Three Cheese chips. I thought it would taste like a cheesy chicharrón.

These reminded me a bit of puffed Cheetos but close to a popcorn texture so I was really looking forward to a new snack to munch on while watching a movie.

Unfortunately, this didn’t quite satisfy my expectations.

Taste

Compared to the Lays Layers Sour Cream & Onion, I liked these more because I could taste the powdered cheese and milk. However, similar to the sour cream and onion chips, the flavor was just too faint. I think these needed more seasoning as well and more cheese overall.

On the initial bite, I really liked the chips. I enjoyed the crunchiness and the initial cheesy taste but I didn’t quite like the after taste. I can’t quite describe it, the best way I can think of is a stale milk after taste.

The image that comes to mind is that of an infant’s mouth. Infants spend months only drinking milk, so they get this cotton mouth looking tongue. In short, I didn’t like the after taste.

Location

I got these at Five Below.

I also saw the same size sold at Walmart for the same prize. I also saw 2/$1USD small sized ones at Woodman’s Market.

Would I buy Lays Layers Three Cheese again?

Answer: No.

Worth Trying?: Not really.

There’s nothing new about this product except for layered potatoes. Out of everything (flavor, new texture, etc), the after taste it’s what I really didn’t like. I don’t know why compared to Lays’ other cheese flavored products this one had that issue but it did.

If you choose not to try these, I don’t think you’re particularly missing out on anything.
