Review: Family Mart Hokkaido melon pan (北海道メロンパン)!

This Family Mart Hokkaido melon pan (北海道メロンパン) has become my go-to snack when I’m in a hurry in the morning.

Family Mart

Family Mart is one of the 3 top コンビニ (convenient stores) known in Japan. The other 2 most common are 7-Eleven & Lawson.

What will have you shopping at all of these コンビニ are the slight difference in products and prices. The reason I call this snack “Family Mart Hokkaido melon pan” is because Family Mart is the only location I’ve found that sells this specific bread.

Taste

The taste is a lot like honey dew melon.

The bread is made to look like a honey dew melon with green top and orange cream. The cream tastes like honey dew but I wasn’t sure how authentic it was. The ingredients don’t list any artificial flavors so I want to believe that the flavor is natural. The ingredients list melon flower paste.

The pan is not too sweet and you can really enjoy the fruity taste. The dough is soft and airy so it doesn’t leave you feeling heavy.

Size

The pan is the same size as a regular burger bun or a Mexican concha pan.

Location

You can find this at nearly any Family Mart in Tokyo.

If you want to find it near you, you can check their website which lists the locations the bread is available, however, the site isn’t always accurate.

Cost

This cost me $128JPY ($0.85 US CENTS) plus taxes.

Prices may vary per purchase location and/or change without notice.

Would I buy Hokkaido Melon Bread (北海道メロンパン) Again?

Answer: Yes.

Worth trying?: Yes. I’ve bought it multiple times.

I really like this bread. If you put it in the freezer for a few minutes, the cream inside thickens like ice cream. I think it’s cheap and worth buying as an occasional snack.
