I was excited to try the new Taiyaki NYC Unicorn Cone & Shake! It was my first time hearing about Taiyaki NYC and they had just released their unicorn ice cream cone.
I just had to try! ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ
What is Taiyaki?
For those who are new to it, taiyaki (鯛焼き) is a Japanese fish shaped pastry often stuffed with bean paste or custard. It’s usually warm, made in a pan similar to a waffle maker. Naturally, taiyaki ice cream would mean that it’s taiyaki filled or stuffed with ice cream. In most cases taiyaki ice cream uses taiyaki as a cone, filled with bean paste or custard and then topped off with ice cream.
The Taiyaki NYC Unicorn Cone
My first official taiyaki ice cream was the Taiyaki NYC’s Unicorn ice cream cone. This themed cone came with 2 ears, the unicorn horn, a soft serve mix of a purple strawberry and vanilla, cotton candy sprinkles, glittery sprinkles and the choice of custard filled or red bean filled.
Yes, it was definitely an Instagram-able moment!
The Taiyaki NYC Unicorn Shake
The 2nd time I was in NYC, I realized that I had yet to try the unicorn themed shake!
The shake was made of taro, one of my all time favorite shake flavors. To think that wasn’t enough to make me very happy, the unicorn shake came with an inflatable unicorn cup holder. Yes, I walked down Manhattan with a unicorn shaped cup holder!

Worth Trying?: Yes.
I’ve gone 3 times already. I’ll definitely be returning to try anything new they have or just for ice cream! The price is quite hefty but since I only stop by once or twice a year, it’s not bad. I also like taiyaki so I don’t mind as much paying the higher price for a warm waffle stuffed with custard.
